Community Kitchen

Bringing People Together Through Food, Care, and Community

At Bestway Community Development, our Community Kitchen — delivered in partnership with Bestway Women — is where compassion meets community.
We use food as a bridge to bring people together, support those in need, and create a welcoming environment where everyone can belong.

Whether you are a New Scot, refugee, asylum seeker, homeless individual, or local resident facing hardship, our doors are open to you.
We believe everyone deserves access to healthy, nutritious meals and the opportunity to share them in a safe, friendly, and supportive space.

What We Do

Home-Style Cooking Workshops

Together with Bestway Women, we run interactive workshops where participants learn how to prepare affordable, healthy meals.
Our sessions celebrate different cultures and cuisines, giving people the chance to share traditional recipes and connect through food.

Community Meals at the Centre

Each week at Jerviston Community Centre, Motherwell, our kitchen team prepares and serves delicious meals for local families, asylum seekers, and community members.
It’s more than just food — it’s a space for conversation, friendship, and community spirit.

Cooking for Homeless People and Those in Need

We provide freshly cooked, nutritious meals to homeless individuals, asylum seekers, and families in crisis across North Lanarkshire.
Through our outreach work and community partnerships, we ensure that vulnerable people receive both practical help and emotional support.

Home Visits for Families in Hardship

For families experiencing financial difficulties or health challenges, our support team can visit your home to cook healthy meals.
This service helps families who may be struggling to prepare food due to illness, limited resources, or other difficulties.
We also offer food parcels, meal planning advice, and referrals to local food banks and welfare support.

Cooking for Community Events

Our kitchen team regularly prepares food for community events, workshops, and cultural celebrations across North Lanarkshire.
These gatherings showcase African, Scottish, and international cuisines, promoting inclusion, togetherness, and pride in our community’s diversity.

Health and Wellbeing Education

Through every meal and workshop, we promote healthy eating, diabetes prevention, and balanced nutrition.
Our goal is to empower people to make better food choices and live healthier, happier lives.

Our Commitment to Quality and Safety

In partnership with Bestway Women, all our kitchen staff and volunteers are fully trained and certified in:

Food Hygiene and Safety (Level 2 and above)

Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) through Disclosure Scotland
This ensures that every meal prepared and every home visit is delivered safely, professionally, and with the highest standards of care.
